Babe Certified Hair Extensions: Adding Length Without Damage

The Cutting Edge Hair Design

Extensions are one of the most transformational services in our salon, and also one of the most misunderstood. The right method, the right install, and the right home care will give you length, fullness, and confidence with zero damage. The wrong choice, on the other hand, can leave you with breakage you spend a year recovering from.

We are Babe Certified Extension Artists. This is a guide to choosing the right method, what to expect, and what real maintenance looks like.

The Four Methods Explained

Tape-In Extensions

Tape-ins are flat panels of hair attached to a section of your natural hair with a medical-grade adhesive. They lay flat against the scalp, are nearly invisible, and are the most beginner-friendly method.

Best for: clients who want length and fullness without commitment. The install takes about 90 minutes, the wear time is 6 to 8 weeks per install, and the same hair can be reused multiple times.

Bonded (Keratin Bond) Extensions

Bonded extensions use a small keratin bond fused to your natural hair with heat. Each bond holds one strand of extension hair, which means the result is incredibly seamless. This is a great option for clients with thicker hair who want maximum movement and naturalness.

Best for: clients who want a longer-wear option. Bonded extensions last about 3 to 4 months and need a removal appointment to take out.

Micro-Link Extensions

Micro-links use a small silicone-lined bead clamped onto a section of your natural hair, with the extension threaded through. No heat, no glue. They are the gentlest option for fine hair that does not tolerate adhesives.

Best for: clients with fine or sensitive hair who want a no-chemical option. Wear time is 6 to 8 weeks per install.

Hand-Tied Wefts

Hand-tied wefts are sewn to a foundation row in your natural hair. They are the lightest, most invisible method available, and the preferred choice for clients who want extensions that look completely undetectable. Wear time is 8 to 10 weeks per install.

Best for: clients with medium to thick hair who want a polished, no-bulk result.

Which Method Is Right for You?

The honest answer is: we do not know until we see your hair. Density, texture, lifestyle, budget, and goal all matter. Every extension service at The Cutting Edge starts with a complimentary consultation where we look at your hair and recommend the method that fits.

"The number one mistake we see is clients who chose a method based on cost or social media, not what their hair actually needs. The right method for you might not be the trending one.", Marie

The Cutting and Color Match

The install is only half the work. The other half is the cut and the color match. We custom blend two, sometimes three shades of extension hair so the color melts into yours. Then we cut everything together, sometimes adding face-framing pieces or texturizing the ends, so the extensions move with your own hair instead of looking pasted on.

For color-treated clients, we coordinate so your color service and your extension match happen in sync.

What About Maintenance?

Move-up appointments are standard for tape-ins, micro-links, and hand-tied wefts. We slide the attachments up as your natural hair grows, so the extensions stay seamless. Bonded extensions get removed completely and reinstalled.

Home care is critical. We will send you home with a routine that includes the right brush (extensions need a loop brush, not a regular paddle), the right shampoo (no sulfates, no oils on the attachment points), and a sleep plan (low ponytail or a silk pillowcase).

How Much Will It Cost?

Extension pricing varies more than any other service because it depends on how much hair you need, which method, and how much custom color we do. Your consultation is complimentary and includes a full quote. See the Service Menu for our base consultation listing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do extensions last?

Tape-in extensions typically last 6 to 8 weeks before a move-up. Hand-tied wefts last 8 to 10 weeks. With proper care, the extension hair itself can last 6 to 12 months across multiple installs.

Will extensions damage my natural hair?

Not when installed and removed correctly by a Babe Certified Artist. We pick the method that best fits your hair density, lifestyle, and goal.

How do you match the color?

We custom blend two or more shades so your extensions melt into your own hair. The cut and finish make them undetectable.
